Miss World- Mexico wins Beauty Beach Contest


On September 6, 1968, María Guadalupe Jones Garay popularly known as Lupita Jones was born in Baja California, Mexico. Twenty-three years later, Jones gave pride to Mexico flag when she became the first and Mexican to win the prestigious title of Miss Universe in 1993. Until this day, no other Mexican is able to win the prestigious title again.
Before joining the Miss Universe, Jones was first crowned as Señorita Mexico or Miss Mexico in September of 1990. After a few months, she competed against 72 candidates from around the world for the Miss Universe 1991 title that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
During the pre-pageant, Jones was clearly a favorite candidate by the judges. She made it to the semi final round as the only contestant who garnered an average score of more than nine. At the final portion of the contest, Jones won every major award from swimsuit, to evening gown and even to interview. She dominated the interview portion when she immersed as the contestant who posed the highest interview score during the Top 6 and the Top 3 questions.
When her Miss Universe reigned ended in 1992, Jones created her own company named Promocertamen. In 1994, she founded Nuestra Belleza Mexico which has become the Official Mexican Pageant that is responsible in selecting the representative of Mexico to three prestigious beauty contests - Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss World.
Lolita Jones is also an advocate of children's right when she supported a program designed to help ill-treated girls. In 2000, she was appointed as United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Goodwill Ambassador. At present, Jones is still active with Nuestra Belleza Mexico and has produced one Miss International in 2007 through Priscilla Perales.
