Miss Yugoslavia,Bernard Marovt, who had  semi-nude photos published in a Yugoslav magazine, was allowed to  participate at the Miss World 1983. Yugoslavia´s Bernad Marovt was the  favourite alongside other names as Misses United Kingdom (Sarah-Jane  Hutt), USA (Lisa Allred) and Jamaica (Catherine Levy).

Miss  Guyana-World 1967,Shakira Baksh,is currently married to renowned  British actor Michael Caine,who won two Academy Awards as Best  Supporting Actor (1986 and 1999). 
On November 16,1967,Shakira Baksh was second runner-up at the Miss  World in London, England.One of the the big favourites of the press and  public, from the beginning, was Guyana´s Shakira Baksh.

Miss  Colombia-World 1984, Angela Patricia Janiot Martirena, qualified for  the semi-finals at the Miss World 1984. When asked  by host Peter  Marshall this question, "Do you admire any person in the United  Kingdom"-Patricia Janiot responded, "My idol is Boy George. I would like  to met singer Boy George".Certainly, she loved listening and dancing to  Boy George´s songs such as "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?", "Karma  Chameleon", and "Church Of The Poison Mind".  
Miss World 1984 was an event to change her life and open doors to  numerous projects. Currently Patricia Janiot is one of the most  recognised journalist in Latin America.Since 1992, she is a news  presenter for Cable News Network (CNN).She was nominated to the Emmy  Award.

The Swedish beauty pageant  industry is languishing since 1990. Sweden participation at Miss World  started out well. Sweden won Miss World two years in succession (1951  and 1952). In 1977, Miss Sweden, Mary Stavin, was elected Miss World.

On  November 18, 1976, Cinthya "Cindy" Jean Breakspeare from Jamaica became  the first naturalized citizen to be crowned Miss World.Cindy was born  in Toronto, Canada.

Miss  Venezuela, Carmen Susana Duijm Zubillaga, was crowned Miss World 1955.  She travelled to London, being the first time that Venezuela would  compete and won. She became the first Latin-American woman to win the  title.Her title was celebrated by Venezuelans.

On December 4, 1999, Miss Liberia, Sebah Esther Tubman, was 4th runner-up at the Miss World pageant. 
Since 1980,Liberia is one of the World´s poorest countries.

Miss  Chile, Margot Montt, was one of the favourites at the Miss World 1986.  Miss Chile-World, however, was a non semi-finalist at Miss World  pageant.

ON  November 21, 1970, for the first time a black woman was crowned as Miss  World. Her name: Jennifer Josephine Hosten from Granada, a small island  in the Caribbean. Since the nobody Granadian has been semi-finalist.  
In 1971, Miss American Virgin Islands, Cherry Raphaelia Creque said,  "I began to believe blacks have a chance in beauty contests when a  black girl won Miss World last year".

On  November 15, 1979, Miss Bermuda, Gina Ann Cassandra Swainson, was  elected as Miss World in London, England.Going into the finals, the  overwhelming favourite among the international press and beauty experts  was Miss Bermuda, who was 1st runner-up at the Miss Universe 1979.She  was intelligent, charismatic, beautiful and elegant.It was the first  time that Bermuda, a small island in the Caribbean, was semi-finalist  and won. Since Gina´s trimph Bermuda has had just 1 semifinalist in  1980.
